About Me

Vocabulary

Go

Can you correct these sentences?

  • I went to skiing yesterday.

  • She enjoys going to shopping.

  • Every summer, my family goes to camping.

(Answer:  delete "to" from all 3 sentences)

We use the form go + verb + ing to express ~しに行くin Japanese. We don't put to after go + verb + ing.

For example:

  • go skiing

  • go camping

  • go fishing

  • go shopping

After the form go + to, we usually say where (a place).

For example:

  • go to Canada

  • go to the supermarket

  • go to the library

  • go to school

Now try these questions:

1. After dinner, let's go (to shopping) (shopping).

2. I want to go (Montreal) (to Montreal) next winter.

3. When you go (Quebec) (to Quebec), be sure to go (to a side-walk café) (a side-walk café).

4. They went (snowboarding) (to snowboarding) last winter in Quebec and went (to Montreal) (Montreal) to go (sightseeing) (to sightseeing).

5. I'd like to go (to the mountain) (the mountain) on a nice day.
