<3. What used to be one of the main uses
for lobsters on P.E.I.?
4. Where is Green Gables located on
P.E.I.?
Prince Edward Island (also known as P.E.I.) is Canada's smallest
province (both in size and population). It is, however, a very
beautiful place with nice beaches, trails, and rivers. If you like
outdoor activities, you can go cycling, kayaking, fishing, camping, and
snowmobiling on P.E.I.
If you are a fan of seafood, then one of the best things about P.E.I.
has to be the famous lobster suppers that are available throughout the
Island. These are held in a variety of venues, from church halls and
cultural centers to specialty buffet restaurants. The supper
usually consists of salads, chowder, local mussels, home-baked rolls, a
variety of desserts, and of course, succulent lobster.
Do you know that until well into the twentieth century, one of the main
uses for lobsters on the Island was as a fertilizer? This was
because until then the lobster was not a popular gourmet food item.
However,
perhaps P.E.I. is most famous for the
story of Anne Shirley, the beloved red-haired orphan created by Lucy
Maud Montgomery in her novel, Anne of Green Gables.
The house on Green Gables was built in the mid-1800s, and was once the
home of the cousins of Lucy Maud Montgomery's grandfather. Their farm
inspired the setting for her novel, Anne of Green Gables. Located
in Cavendish in the Prince Edward Island National Park, Green Gables is
now a popular tourist destination. Each year hundreds of thousands of
visitors from around the world visit the site.
